Why it matters on an HVAC site
schema.org defines `HVACBusiness` as a specific subtype of `LocalBusiness`. Most contractor sites use the generic type, or `Organization`, which is less specific than the vocabulary allows.
The more consequential part is consistency. The name, address and phone in your markup are a machine-readable claim about your business, and if they disagree with your Google Business Profile you have published a contradiction in the format designed to be trusted.
How to check it yourself
- The Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator parse what is actually on the page and report errors separately from warnings.
- Compare every field in the markup against the Google Business Profile field by field. The phone number is the one that is usually wrong.
- Check it on a rendered page, since markup injected by a tag manager is absent from the raw HTML.
Worked through in numbers
A contractor uses `LocalBusiness` with a phone number of (512) 555-0640.
Their Google Business Profile lists (512) 555-0118. The 0640 number is a call-tracking pool number, inserted into the markup by the same script that swaps it on the page, so the structured data has been contradicting the profile for eleven months.
Switching the type to `HVACBusiness` was the small part. Excluding the markup from the number swap, so it always carries the profile number, was the fix.
