Corrections
Every change to the criteria, the company set or a published finding, with what changed, why, and what it did to the results.
A directory that never visibly corrects itself is either perfect or not looking. Several of the entries below moved a real company’s standing, and two of them were caught only because a finding was checked a second way before it shipped.

Removed the editorial placement of TradeOps Consulting and the label that explained it
TradeOps Consulting had been inserted at third on the leaderboard by an editorial decision rather than by measurement, with a label on the row saying so. That placement was withdrawn. An order that needs a label explaining why one row is out of place is weaker than an order that does not.
EffectTradeOps now sits where the same criteria put every other entry: 13th of 15, last of the thirteen agencies we could measure on the measurement stack running on their own sites, and 15th of 15 on referring domains. No score, criterion or weight was changed to move it.

Withdrew self-ranking as a ground for excluding a company
The rule excluded four companies for publishing agency rankings that place themselves first. Applied evenly it would have excluded this directory as well. A criterion that cannot survive being applied to the site that uses it is not a criterion. Replaced with three tests about readability, surface and market.
EffectBuilt-Right Digital was added to the field as a result, despite publishing exactly the kind of self-ranking list the withdrawn rule was aimed at.

Reinstated three companies excluded on an assumption
Mediagistic, iMarket Solutions and KickCharge Creative were excluded on the ground that SEO was one module of a bundle. That was assumed rather than measured. All three publish a separable SEO surface, and two publish an HVAC-specific one. The same description would also have excluded any listed agency that sells paid media alongside SEO.
EffectAll three are listed and scored.

Corrected a finding that an agency ran no analytics
Contractor Growth Network was recorded as running no analytics or tag manager, from a single detection path reading the delivered HTML. A second path, reading the rendered page, found GTM-NWBLMFD and GA4 property G-V5D5XD5GFR. The first method produced a false absence about a named company.
EffectThe finding was corrected before publication, and the rule that produced the error was changed: absence is now stated only where two independent paths agree and nothing is gating detection. The headline figure moved from 16 of 17 to 12 of 14.

Removed Thrive Internet Marketing from the ranked field
Thrive is a cross-vertical generalist whose homepage declares no home-services market. Two other generalists had already been excluded on that basis. Leaving Thrive in while excluding them was inconsistent.
EffectNot listed. This removal was identified and its immateriality established before it was made, because Thrive would have been among the strongest performers and removing a strong performer needs to be visibly not self-serving.

Removed hvacseo.org from the ranked field
Its Domain Rating of 0.3 against 375 referring domains prompted a full page read. The domain was registered on 25 Feb 2026, carries a one-year registration, names no practitioner anywhere, and publishes no phone number or email address. Master plan entry rules require a verifiable, currently trading agency, and trading could not be verified.
EffectNot listed. The anomaly in the link data was the prompt; domain age was the explanation. Scoring the entry on the numbers alone, in either direction, would have been wrong.

Blue Corona folded into RYNO Strategic Solutions
Blue Corona merged into RYNO on 1 Oct 2024 and trades under the RYNO brand. Its own about page says so, as does the PR Newswire release of that date. bluecorona.com still ranks and still takes enquiries, so a directory assembled from search results alone lists a company you cannot hire.
EffectOne entry, under RYNO, with the merger date and the parent company named.

Withdrew a set of weights derived from measured discriminating power
An alternative weighting was derived from how much each discipline separated the field. The derivation was sound and it was withdrawn before use, because the position it was being tested against turned out to be unreachable by any non-negative weighting, which made the exercise moot.
EffectThe published weights are the original ones, derived from the argument about what moves HVAC outcomes rather than from a target.
